The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal herbal product manufacturing facility in Agege, Lagos State, following an investigation into herbal products allegedly carrying falsified registration numbers.
The agency disclosed that its investigation led to the discovery of three variants of Asheitu Adams Bitters bearing NAFDAC registration number A7-1827L.
According to NAFDAC, verification through its NAPAMS portal revealed that the registration number actually belongs to Greentol Cough Syrup, indicating that it was fraudulently used on the herbal products.
During the operation, the company’s manager was arrested for further interrogation, while the managing director and chief executive officer was reportedly absent.

The agency urged members of the public to report suspected illegal manufacturing activities through its call centres on 0800-1-623322 or 0700-1-623322, or via email at reforms@nafdac.gov.ng.
The development comes less than a week after NAFDAC uncovered a suspected counterfeit drinks factory at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos, where two suspects were arrested over the alleged production and repackaging of fake alcoholic and energy drinks.
The agency said the operation exposed unhygienic production conditions, with suspects allegedly refilling empty bottles of expensive wines with adulterated alcoholic drinks and applying counterfeit labels.
NAFDAC reiterated the importance of public cooperation in identifying and reporting illegal manufacturing activities to protect consumers from potentially dangerous products.
