Gunmen have killed a serving officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and abducted a businessman during a fresh attack in Pushit community, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2026, despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed in parts of the area following repeated security breaches.
According to a community member, Lawrence Tabitha, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Jos on Tuesday, the attackers had earlier abducted a businessman involved in the sale of fuel, cement and fertiliser.
Tabitha disclosed that the NSCDC officer, a Deputy Superintendent, was shot dead near his residence while riding his motorcycle.
He explained that the officer’s motorcycle headlight reportedly exposed the gunmen’s movements as they attempted to flee with the abducted businessman, prompting them to open fire on him.
