One person was killed while seven others sustained injuries after gunmen opened fire on a commercial vehicle in Plateau State.
The incident reportedly happened around 6:30pm on Sunday at the Bukuru Total Roundabout in Jos South Local Government Area.
The vehicle, a Boxer bus carrying about 20 traders, was reportedly conveying passengers from the Kara Livestock Market in Bukuru to Rafin Bauna Village in Bassa Local Government Area when the attackers opened fire.
A security personnel who confirmed the incident said the vehicle may have been targeted after it was allegedly followed to the busy roundabout while trying to beat a recently imposed curfew in parts of the state.
The Chairman of the Plateau State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, also confirmed the attack.
Babayo said the victims were mainly Fulani and Hausa traders returning home after their day’s business at the Kara Cattle Market.
He condemned the attack as barbaric and called on security agencies, including the police, Operation Enduring Peace and the Department of State Services, to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
