
At least 20 people have been confirmed dead following a fatal road accident at Hawan Kibo in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The crash occurred at about 5pm on Friday along the Hawan Kibo bend, reportedly throwing the community into panic as rescue operations began.
The Plateau State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander Adelaja Ogungbemi, confirmed the death toll and said several injured victims were evacuated to hospitals for treatment.

According to the FRSC, the accident was caused by brake failure. An eyewitness said the vehicle reportedly lost control while descending the hill before crashing.
Rescue operations and evacuation of injured victims were still ongoing as of the time of the report.
The FRSC has again urged motorists to properly inspect their vehicles, particularly their braking systems, before embarking on journeys and to exercise caution when negotiating bends and steep roads.
