Heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in several parts of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, leaving homes, vehicles and roads submerged.
The flooding occurred on Sunday as torrential rain overwhelmed parts of the city, forcing residents to struggle through rising water while trying to protect their belongings.
Areas reportedly affected include Chiomana Street in Rukpokwu, parts of the Aba Expressway, Peter Odili Road and Ozuoba.
Videos from the affected communities showed floodwaters reaching waist level in some areas. Several vehicles were trapped or completely submerged, while residents were seen removing water from their homes.
The flooding also reportedly damaged electric poles and disrupted normal activities in the affected communities.
Some social events were equally affected, with wedding guests reportedly stranded after floodwaters entered a reception venue.

The situation has also raised concerns over public health, as refuse and sewage were seen floating in the floodwaters, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.
Residents have linked the worsening flooding to poor drainage systems, blocked waterways, indiscriminate waste disposal and construction in areas that previously served as natural channels for stormwater.
Some affected residents have appealed to the Rivers State Government to provide urgent assistance, saying they have been left with limited options as floodwaters continue to enter their homes.
As of the time of filing the report, the Rivers State Government had not released an official statement on the incident.
