Five kidnapped victims, including the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nura Umar Abdullahi, have escaped from captivity.
The victims regained their freedom in the early hours of Thursday in the general area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
They were subsequently received by troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, during an intelligence-led operation targeting a suspected terrorist location in the area.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, confirmed that the troops secured the victims after they escaped from their captors.

Abdullahi was abducted from his residence in Bungudu town in July 2026 during a late-night attack. Four security personnel were reportedly killed during the incident.
After their escape, the five victims were provided with security cover and evacuated to a military medical facility, where they were receiving treatment and undergoing medical evaluation and routine debriefing.
The military said one of the victims had already been reunited with their family, while arrangements were being made to reunite the remaining victims with their relatives and the Zamfara State Government.
The Theatre Command commended the victims for their courage and determination in regaining their freedom after spending a prolonged period in captivity.
It also praised the troops who received and secured the victims following their escape.
The military said Operation FANSAN YAMMA would continue clearance operations across the area to disrupt terrorist activities, protect communities and support efforts to secure other persons who may still be held captive or missing.
