A woman confronted police officers in Lagos after they allegedly attempted to take two young men away following a search of their mobile phones.
The incident was captured in a video that circulated on social media on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
In the footage, the woman could be heard demanding that the officers release the two boys, insisting that they would not be taken away.
One of the young men, who appeared to be recording the encounter, alleged that the officers began forcing them into a police vehicle while one of the officers was still checking his phone.
He further claimed that another boy was pushed into the vehicle and allegedly slapped during the confrontation.
An officer, while explaining the reason for the phone search, said the boys had objected to the officers checking their devices, describing their refusal as disrespectful.
The woman continued to challenge the officers, questioning why young men were allegedly being targeted during such encounters.
According to the social media post accompanying the video, the officers searched the boys’ phones and reportedly instructed them to contact anyone they wished to call.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the reason for the police intervention and whether the phone search was lawful, could not be independently verified.

The incident has nevertheless sparked reactions online, with some users alleging similar encounters between police officers and young people in parts of Ikorodu, Lagos.
The controversy comes amid previous warnings by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police against officers searching people’s phones during stop-and-search operations.
The police commissioner had directed officers to concentrate on checking vehicles and verifying passengers, rather than searching mobile devices.
The latest incident has renewed calls for police officers to conduct stop-and-search operations within the bounds of the law while respecting the rights of members of the public.
