Residents of Ajegunle area of Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of Osun State were thrown into panic on Tuesday night following a reported confrontation between two tactical teams of the Nigeria Police Force.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:45pm on September 8, 2026, after the Olufon Palace contacted the Ifon Police Division over a gunshot heard in the area.
According to a police situation report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately led officers to the area to determine the cause of the disturbance.
However, upon arrival, the police team reportedly met two separate tactical units engaged in a heated confrontation.
One of the teams was identified as the Anti-Robbery Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Osogbo, led by DSP Kolawole Wasiu and four other officers.
The second team was reportedly from Zone XI and was led by Inspector Ola Isaac alongside four other officers.
The situation report stated that the two teams were involved in an altercation and were allegedly “attacking themselves,” causing residents to fear for their safety.
It was also reported that neither tactical team had informed the Ifon Police Division of its presence in the community before the incident.
Following the development, the DPO reportedly contacted the Osun State Commissioner of Police, who ordered that the officers from both teams be disarmed and detained pending an investigation.

The order was subsequently carried out, while senior officers involved were directed to report to the division by 6am on Wednesday.
The incident has raised concerns over coordination among police tactical units, particularly when multiple teams operate within the same community without notifying the local divisional command.
Efforts to obtain further comments from the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi Zechariah, were reportedly unsuccessful as calls to his phone were not answered.
