FIFA has announced that the winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive specially designed championship rings for the first time in the tournament’s history, adding a new tradition to the prestigious trophy and gold medals awarded to the champions.
The world football governing body confirmed the initiative ahead of Sunday’s World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at the New York New Jersey Stadium, describing it as a landmark addition inspired by the long-standing championship ring tradition in American sports.
According to FIFA, a total of 2,026 individually numbered rings will be produced to commemorate the tournament. Thirty of the rings will be reserved for members of the victorious team, while the remaining 1,996 will be released as limited-edition collectibles for football fans around the world through official licensing channels.

The rings will feature the FIFA World Cup trophy on one side, while the other side will be customised to celebrate the identity of the winning nation. Each ring will also be individually numbered, tailored to fit its recipient, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
FIFA revealed that immediately after the World Cup final, the winning team’s captain and head coach will be presented with temporary championship rings during the celebrations. The complete set of customised rings will later be produced and officially presented to players and team officials to ensure a perfect fit.
The initiative marks the first time a FIFA competition has included championship rings as part of its winners’ rewards, combining one of North America’s most recognisable sporting traditions with football’s biggest tournament.
Spain and Argentina will battle for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title on Sunday, with the champions set to become the first team in history to lift the trophy and receive the newly introduced championship rings.
