Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly killed a 300-level student of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, and abducted five other victims in separate incidents across Edo State.
The tragic events occurred between Friday, July 10, and Sunday, July 12, 2026, in Idoa and Ekpoma communities.
According to reports, the university student was attacked and killed during a night invasion of his residence in Ekpoma. A woman was also abducted during the same incident. Details surrounding the student’s identity remain unclear at the time of filing this report.
In a separate attack in Idoa community, Esan West Local Government Area, gunmen abducted the secretary to the palace along with three children. The victims were reportedly taken on Friday morning while attempting to repair a faulty vehicle.
A family source disclosed that the abductors have demanded a ransom of ₦30 million and threatened to kill the victims if the payment is not made within the stipulated time.

Narrating the incident, the source explained that the palace secretary had returned to fix his broken-down vehicle when the attackers emerged from the bush and seized him alongside the children, who had accompanied him.
The source added that the children belonged to neighbors and had only gone to assist him, as he was expected to return them home after the repairs.
The incident has been reported to security authorities, while appeals have been made to the government and relevant agencies to urgently intervene and secure the victims’ release.
As of the time of this report, the Edo State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incidents.
This development adds to growing security concerns in the area, following earlier reports of violent attacks, including the killing of a community chief and the abduction of his daughters earlier in the year.
