
Three people have been confirmed dead after suspected gunmen launched a fresh attack on Anyiase community in Moon Council Ward of Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, in another incident highlighting the persistent insecurity affecting parts of the state.
The attackers reportedly invaded farmlands on Thursday afternoon, opening fire on residents. Two farmers, identified as Asongo Nagwebe and Tarzan Agbahegh, lost their lives during the initial assault, while two other victims sustained serious injuries.
A local community leader, Akerigba Lawrence, said one of the injured victims later died while being transferred to Makurdi for advanced medical treatment, raising the death toll to three. The injured woman is reportedly receiving medical care.
Residents also claimed that the assailants resurfaced on Friday morning and erected a roadblock at Kyoawen Junction, where they allegedly fired at a commercial bus transporting passengers. Authorities have yet to confirm whether the latest incident resulted in additional casualties.

As of the time of reporting, officials of the Kwande Local Government Area had not issued a statement on the attack. The Benue State Police Command was also yet to provide an official update, as efforts to reach the command for confirmation were unsuccessful.
The latest violence comes amid a series of deadly attacks that have continued to affect communities across Benue State, prompting renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect lives and property.
