The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging a fresh building collapse in the Alakija area of Lagos State.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, described the claims as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
According to him, the agency promptly responded to the reports by deploying emergency response teams to the alleged location.
However, after a comprehensive assessment and thorough sweep of the area, no evidence of any building collapse was found.
“Following the receipt of the information, the Agency immediately deployed personnel to assess the reported location. After a thorough sweep of the area, no evidence of a second building collapse was found,” the statement read.
LASEMA warned against the spread of unverified information, emphasizing that false emergency alerts can disrupt operations, divert critical resources, and delay response to real-life emergencies where lives may be at risk.

“The circulation of false emergency reports diverts critical resources, dissipates operational efforts, and may delay response to genuine emergencies,” Oke-Osanyintolu added.
The agency urged residents to remain vigilant but responsible by verifying information through credible channels before sharing.
It also encouraged the public to report emergencies through official lines, allowing first responders to properly assess and respond to incidents.
Reaffirming its commitment, LASEMA stated that it remains dedicated to protecting lives and property through swift, coordinated, and professional emergency response services.
This clarification comes in the wake of a recent two-storey building collapse in the same Alakija axis, which resulted in multiple casualties and prompted a large-scale rescue operation by emergency agencies.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of responsible information sharing, especially during emergency situations.
