Victims recently rescued from a kidnapping incident in Ogun State have called on the Federal Government to urgently improve the funding, equipment, and welfare of police personnel across the country.
The victims, who were abducted along the Ogbere axis in Ijebu East Local Government Area, regained their freedom following a joint security operation by Ogun and Lagos State forces under the code name “Operation Kosaye.”
Speaking to journalists at the Police Training School in Iperu-Remo, one of the victims, Mr. Jimoh Gbadamosi, expressed deep appreciation for the swift response of security operatives, describing their rescue within 24 hours as “remarkable and beyond expectation.”
Another victim, who identified herself as Temiloluwa, recounted the traumatic experience. According to her, she was traveling from Edo State to Lagos for her annual leave when their vehicle ran into an ambush.
She explained that the attackers opened fire, causing confusion that led to a collision between vehicles. During the incident, she sustained injuries, including a knocked-out tooth.
The victims were subsequently robbed and forced into the forest, where they trekked for several hours while their families were contacted for ransom.

Temiloluwa noted that the kidnappers demanded ₦20 million before the intervention of security operatives disrupted the operation. She described the moment of rescue as unexpected, stating that she had almost lost hope of survival.
Both victims commended the courage and dedication of the police but emphasized the need for systemic improvements.
They urged the government to prioritize better remuneration, proper equipment, and enhanced welfare packages for officers who risk their lives daily to protect citizens.
Gbadamosi further highlighted issues affecting police personnel, including delayed pensions and inadequate compensation for officers injured or killed in the line of duty.
He stressed that addressing these challenges would boost morale and strengthen the country’s overall security framework.
The victims concluded by calling for a shift in public perception, encouraging Nigerians to recognize and support the efforts of security agencies in safeguarding lives and property.
