
Egypt have become the fourth African nation to record a win at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup after a comeback 3–1 victory over New Zealand in their Group G encounter.
The match, played at BC Place, Vancouver, saw the Egyptian side recover from a goal down to claim all three points in convincing fashion.
Goals from Mostafa Ziko, Mohamed Salah, and Trezeguet sealed the comeback for the Pharaohs.
Before the win against New Zealand, the Egypt national football team had earlier held Belgium to a 1–1 draw in their opening group match, maintaining an unbeaten start to their campaign.
Egypt now join a growing list of African teams making an impact at the tournament.

The Ivory Coast national football team were the first to secure a win after edging Ecuador 1–0, followed by the Ghana national football team who defeated Panama by the same scoreline.
Morocco national football team also continued Africa’s strong showing with a 1–0 win over Scotland in their second Group C fixture.
Meanwhile, teams such as Senegal, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Algeria, South Africa, and Tunisia are still searching for their first victory in the tournament.
Egypt’s comeback win further strengthens Africa’s presence on the global stage as the competition intensifies.
