A 57-year-old farmer has been arrested by police in Cross River State over the alleged killing of two men in Odukpani Local authorities Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Samuel Sunny Udoh, was taken into custody following an investigation into the disappearance of one Akan Patrick, who was reported missing after leaving for his farm in the Okong community.
According to police authorities, the case came to light after Patrick’s wife reported that her husband had failed to return home several days after departing for his farm. Police investigations eventually led to the arrest of Udoh, who allegedly made statements linking him to the deaths of Patrick and another man identified as Imoh.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly told investigators that he had previously been involved in a dispute with the two men. He claimed they confronted him at his farm and demanded bags of cannabis allegedly being cultivated on the property. The matter was said to have been brought before community leaders but was later resolved without further action.
Udoh further alleged that a confrontation later occurred between him and the two men, during which he pushed them into a nearby river. He claimed both men drowned during the incident.
Police said the suspect admitted he did not report the deaths to authorities, allegedly because of his involvement in the cultivation of the prohibited substance.
The Cross River State Police Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged in court upon completion of the inquiry.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice in the case and urged residents to report criminal activities promptly to security agencies.
