Switzerland produced a stunning late surge to defeat Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-1 at Los Angeles Stadium, scoring four goals in the final 16 minutes to move closer to a place in the World Cup knockout stage.
After a goalless first half, the breakthrough finally arrived in the 74th minute when substitute Johan Manzambi volleyed home from close range just minutes after entering the match. The 20-year-old’s impact proved decisive as Switzerland seized control of the contest.
Bosnia-Herzegovina’s hopes suffered a major setback in the 80th minute when defender Tarik Muharemović received a straight red card for bringing down Breel Embolo while through on goal.
With the visitors reduced to 10 men, Switzerland capitalized on their advantage. Ruben Vargas doubled the lead in the 84th minute with a clinical curling finish into the bottom corner. Vargas then turned provider six minutes later, setting up Manzambi for his second goal of the evening to make it 3-0.
Captain Granit Xhaka completed the rout deep into stoppage time, calmly converting a penalty in the 97th minute after Djibril Sow was fouled inside the box.
