
At least nine people have been killed and 11 others injured following an attack on Angwan Magaji community in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, a border community adjoining Plateau State.
The attack, which reportedly occurred around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, has heightened concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting communities along the Kaduna–Plateau corridor.
According to a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, armed assailants stormed the community and opened fire on residents. He noted that the majority of those living in the affected settlement are members of the Irigwe ethnic group with ancestral ties to Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims identified as having lost their lives in the attack are Jerry Doctor, 51; Danlami Magani, 49; Sunday Chibi, 53; Rita Abdullahi, 45; Sunday Elkan, 5; Esther Kefas, 5; Happy Friday, 6; Moses Daddy, 4; and Daddy Ibrahim, 28.
Eleven other residents sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Dickson Auta, confirmed the incident and strongly condemned the killings. He described the attack as tragic and called on security agencies to launch an immediate investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Auta expressed concern over the recurring attacks on communities in the area and urged authorities to strengthen security measures to safeguard lives and property. He also appealed to all levels of government to take urgent action to prevent further violence and restore confidence among residents.
He noted that the latest attack has plunged the community into mourning and renewed calls for decisive intervention to end the cycle of violence in the region.
