Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps have arrested three suspects accused of vandalising government property and using a public school as a criminal hideout in Ovia North East Local Government Area.
The arrests were made at about 7:06 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, during an operation by the Oluku command at Oluku Primary School. Deputy Commandant of Operations, Richard Balogun, disclosed the details to journalists in Benin City.
The suspects were identified as Daniel Idong, 29, from Cross River State, and Destiny Idahosa, 18, and Bright Efosa, 25, both from Edo State. Balogun said they were apprehended for alleged vandalism, armed robbery, criminal trespass, and acts capable of breaching public peace.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the group had been vandalising government property and illegally occupying the school premises. One of the suspects, Destiny Idahosa, confessed to stealing a mobile phone from a commercial bus driver.
Inside Edo:
“The use of a public school as a criminal hideout is disturbing and a threat to public safety. The security agencies will continue to clamp down on criminal elements in the state,” Balogun stated.
He added that he had recently visited schools in the area to sensitise residents and students against vandalising public property.
The suspects have been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Ekiadolor Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.
