Police in Anambra State have arrested two men for producing and distributing adulterated alcoholic drinks in a mini-factory within the state.
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad made the arrest in the early hours of Monday, June 15, 2026, following credible intelligence. The suspects were identified as Ikechukwu Okeke, 42, and Okeke Chukwuemeka, 38.
The Anambra State Police Command said preliminary investigations showed the suspects were part of a syndicate specialising in counterfeiting popular alcoholic brands. During interrogation, both men confessed and led police to their production facility.
At the mini-factory, officers recovered several suspected fake drinks including Seaman’s Schnapps, McDowell’s, Eagle Schnapps, Elliot Hot Drinks and Baileys Fresh Cream.
Police also seized dangerous chemicals used in the production process, along with numerous empty bottles, labels and packaging materials meant for continued manufacture of counterfeit alcohol.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the suspects are in custody while exhibits have been secured for forensic examination. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for the operation and warned individuals involved in producing fake consumables to desist or face prosecution.
Police said investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the syndicate and uncover the full extent of their operation. The command urged residents to report suspicious production sites and avoid buying alcoholic drinks from unverified sources to prevent health risks associated with fake alcohol.
