The Oyo State Police Command has debunked a viral video alleging that about 300 Lakurawa terrorists have entered the state, describing the claim as false, misleading, and intended to incite fear among residents.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command clarified that a thorough forensic analysis and intelligence-based verification found no evidence supporting the claim.
According to the statement, the video in circulation was deliberately manipulated to create panic and tension within the public.
The police further revealed that the voice overlay in the video allegedly attributed to an individual identified as Alhaji Muftau from Kontagora matches previously debunked misinformation.
“Comprehensive forensic analysis and intelligence-based verification have confirmed that the viral video alleging the movement of Lakurawa terrorists into Oyo State is entirely false and designed to mislead the public,” the statement noted.
The Command also stated that intelligence gathered from security operatives stationed across border communities, alongside strengthened early warning systems, showed no trace of such movement.

Joint verification efforts with neighboring police formations equally confirmed that the report is unfounded.
Additionally, investigations revealed that the video was neither recorded in Nigeria nor a recent occurrence, further reinforcing the conclusion that it was circulated with the intent to deceive.
The police cautioned individuals and groups against spreading unverified information capable of undermining public peace and security, warning that offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace and security, the Command urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and rely only on credible and official sources for information.
This clarification comes amid heightened security concerns following recent attacks on schools in Oyo State, which had raised fears about possible terrorist expansion into the region.
Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies through appropriate channels.
