
The Nigeria Police Force has directed its operatives across major border corridors and monitoring units nationwide to immediately arrest, impound and investigate any vehicle found with a covered number plate.
According to an internal police wireless message, the directive was issued by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Border Patrol Force, Abuja, through a police wireless communication dated June 10, 2026.
The message was addressed to police formations and border security coordinators in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Adamawa, Yobe and Cross River states, among others.
The signal stated that all vehicles operating with concealed or covered registration plates are to be stopped and subjected to investigation.

Referenced CB:4001/BPD/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL12/143, the wireless message directed that henceforth all vehicles with covered plate numbers should be arrested, impounded and investigated, except those with flags before 1800hrs.
The order was copied to coordinators of border zones across the country, including Seme, Ilorin, Sokoto, Katsina, Yola, Maiduguri and Calabar, as well as commanders overseeing strategic border posts such as Daura, Jibia, Illela, Kamba, Babana, Mubi, Geidam, Ikom and Oron.
The directive was classified as “very important” and marked for immediate implementation. Field officers were instructed to provide updates to the AIG Border Patrol Force.
The signal read, “CB:4001/BPD/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL12/143 X ORDER AND DIRECTIVES X AIGPOL DIRECT THAT X HENCEFORTH ALL COVERED PLATE NUMBER OF ANY VEHICLE X SHOULD BE ARRESTED X IMPOUNDED X INVESTIGATED X EXCEPT THOSE WITH FLAGS BEFORE 1800HRS X YOU ARE TO UPDATE THE AIGPOL ACCORDINGLY X TREAT AS VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE X XX XXX XXXXX M/IMMEDIATE.”
