The Kogi State Government has pledged to bring to justice the bandits responsible for a deadly attack on Iluke community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, which left three residents dead.
In a statement released in Lokoja, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Iluke community, and the entire Bunu District.
According to reports, the attackers, disguised in military uniforms, stormed the community during an ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), causing panic and attempting to abduct students.
Fanwo revealed that the assailants had begun marching the students into the bush before security operatives intervened, engaging them in a fierce gun battle.
Thanks to the swift and coordinated response of military personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters, all the students were successfully rescued unharmed, preventing what could have been a large-scale abduction.
During the operation, one of the bandits was neutralised, while others reportedly escaped with serious gunshot wounds.

The state government has since launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects, with security agencies intensifying efforts to apprehend everyone connected to the attack.
Fanwo commended the bravery and professionalism of the security forces, noting that their timely intervention saved lives and averted further tragedy.
He assured residents that the government is closely monitoring the situation and is working with relevant agencies to strengthen security presence in the area. Additional security measures, he added, will be announced as part of ongoing efforts to protect lives and property.
The commissioner also urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive by providing credible information to security agencies.
“Kogi State will not submit to terror. Criminal elements will continue to face a determined and uncompromising response from both the government and security agencies,” he stated.
The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and restoring peace in the affected community. :::
