The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed widespread claims circulating on social media alleging the presence of terrorists in Ogbomoso and surrounding areas, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, clarified that intelligence reports do not support the alleged infiltration of suspected Lukarawa terrorists into forests around Ogbomoso or the Old Oyo National Park.
According to the Command, the viral video and accompanying voice note making the rounds online lack any factual basis and should be disregarded by the public.
“The claims are entirely unfounded. Comprehensive intelligence assessments available to the Command show no indication of terrorist presence in the mentioned locations,” the statement read.
Despite debunking the reports, the police assured residents that proactive security measures have been intensified across the region.
Intelligence and covert operatives have been deployed to border communities and other vulnerable areas to reinforce security and ensure early detection of any potential threats.
The Command added that these efforts are being carried out in collaboration with local security networks, including vigilante groups, hunters, and traditional institutions, to strengthen community-based intelligence gathering.

Residents of Ogbomoso and adjoining communities have also witnessed increased police visibility, including patrols, stop-and-search operations, and strategic deployments aimed at maintaining peace and deterring criminal activity.
While urging calm, the police emphasized the dangers of spreading unverified information, warning that fake security alerts can incite panic, disrupt economic activities, and divert attention from genuine security concerns.
“The dissemination of false information is not only irresponsible but also a criminal offence punishable under the law,” the Command warned, adding that individuals found culpable will be identified and prosecuted.
Citizens were advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through official security channels while relying only on verified information from recognized authorities.
The police reassured the public that there is currently no credible threat in Ogbomoso and encouraged residents to continue their daily activities without fear.
“Together, through vigilance and responsible information sharing, we will continue to keep Oyo State safe and secure,” the statement concluded. :::
