
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted a truck loaded with building materials that was used to conceal large quantities of opioids and other illicit drugs in Jalingo, Taraba State.
According to the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, operatives of the Taraba Command acted on credible intelligence and stopped the truck on its way from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Jalingo.
A search at the Nukkai Timber Shade revealed the drugs hidden beneath the cargo. A 22-year-old suspect, Buhari Abdullahi, was arrested at the scene.
Items recovered include 320,840 capsules of tramadol, 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 pills of rohypnol, and 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.
In separate operations across the country, the agency also made arrests in Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Kano, and Gombe states. In Ebonyi, a 75-year-old man, Okebe Samuel, was arrested at Okposi with 300 grams of skunk, which he allegedly sold in retail sachets to youths in his community.

In Imo, officers raided a drug enclave at Umulolo, Orlu, arresting 32-year-old Chioma Okeke and recovering 8 kilograms of skunk.
In Edo, four traffickers, including three women, were arrested during raids in Benin City on June 2. The suspects were found with skunk, Loud, methamphetamine, and other psychotropic substances.
In Kano, 19-year-old Saifullahi Lawan was arrested in the Kafi area of Madobi with 40 blocks of skunk weighing 38 kilograms. In Gombe, Ugwu Ifebuchi, 28, was intercepted near Dantiti Plaza in Tumfure with 15,000 capsules of tramadol.
The NDLEA said its War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaign also continued in schools across Oyo, Lagos, Anambra, and Kano states during the week.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers involved and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug supply chains. “We remain fully committed to targeting traffickers regardless of age, gender, or concealment methods,” he said.
