Academic activities at the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, Enugu State, have been disrupted following the commencement of a two-week warning strike by members of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU).
The industrial action, which began on June 3, 2026, was declared after lecturers accused the college management of failing to address a series of longstanding concerns affecting staff and the institution. The union said its decision followed several attempts to engage the management without success.

According to the lecturers, a seven-day ultimatum had earlier been issued to the college authorities, outlining key issues that required urgent attention. However, the union claimed that the concerns were not adequately addressed before the deadline expired.
The strike decision was reached during an emergency congress of the union, where members resolved to withdraw their services for two weeks. Union leaders stated that the action was intended to draw attention to their grievances and compel the management to take meaningful steps toward resolving them.
COEASU also warned that the warning strike could be followed by a more extensive industrial action if the issues remain unresolved after the two-week period. A monitoring committee has reportedly been established to ensure compliance with the strike directive across departments within the institution.
The strike notice was signed by the chapter chairman and secretary of the union and communicated to relevant authorities, including officials in the education sector, the institution’s governing council, security agencies, and student representatives.
The development is expected to affect lectures, academic assessments, and other educational activities at the college until further notice, while students and staff await possible negotiations between the union and the institution’s management.
