A deadly attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to the Anambra State Governor has left four people dead, with security operatives confirming the arrest of a key suspect.
The incident occurred on Sunday along the Ufuma–Amansea Road in Orumba North Local Government Area, targeting the convoy of Dr. Ben Nwankwo, Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Reports indicate that the convoy’s driver narrowly escaped the ambush by skillfully navigating through heavy gunfire.
However, two police officers attached to the Chief of Staff were killed in the attack, alongside two civilians traveling in the convoy, bringing the total death toll to four.
Reacting to the incident, the Anambra State Government condemned the attack, describing it as a serious setback after more than a year of improved security in the state.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr. Law Mefor, described the incident as an attack on the peace and stability of Anambra.
He reassured residents that the government remains committed to eliminating criminal elements and ensuring justice for the victims.

Following the attack, a joint security operation involving the police, army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local security outfits was launched in the area.
During the operation, a suspect reportedly dressed in police camouflage was arrested.
Preliminary findings suggest that the attackers may have operated from a nearby criminal hideout, possibly set up by gunmen displaced from other parts of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, criticized local community leaders for failing to report suspicious activities and has directed them to work closely with security agencies in the ongoing manhunt.
Security sources revealed that the attackers carried out the operation in a guerrilla-style manner before fleeing the scene.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing and efforts have intensified to track down other members of the criminal group.
The state government has extended condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security across Anambra.
