
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed a total of 1,542 personnel across Edo State to strengthen security and ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Edo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Saidi Akintayo, disclosed this during a press briefing held in Benin City on Friday.
He explained that the deployment follows a directive from the Commandant General of the corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi, as part of nationwide efforts to guarantee public safety during the festive period.
According to him, the officers were drawn from various specialised units including the tactical team, counter-terrorism unit, intelligence and investigation department, armed squad, agro rangers, and operations department.
Akintayo stated that personnel have been strategically positioned across critical locations in the state such as Eid prayer grounds, marketplaces, motor parks, recreational centres, worship centres, highways, and other vulnerable areas before, during, and after the celebrations.
He added that area commanders, divisional officers, and other field operatives have been directed to intensify patrols, surveillance, and intelligence gathering to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The Commandant issued a stern warning to criminal elements, urging them to steer clear of Edo State, stressing that the command is fully prepared to respond decisively to any threat to public peace and security.
He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in preventing crime and maintaining order.
Akintayo commended the Edo State Government for its continuous support to security agencies, noting that such collaboration has significantly enhanced operational effectiveness.
He also praised inter-agency cooperation, describing it as key to sustaining peace and stability across the state.
He further urged Muslim faithful to embrace the core values of Eid-el-Kabir, including sacrifice, peace, tolerance, unity, and love.
The Eid-el-Kabir celebration, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to God, is expected to be observed nationwide on May 27, 2026, as announced by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
