
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has rescued a newborn baby allegedly sold by a child trafficking syndicate and arrested three women linked to the shocking crime.
The suspects were apprehended during a police operation carried out on May 13, 2026, following intelligence reports and a complaint filed by the baby’s father.
Police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, disclosed that the baby boy was allegedly sold for ₦145,000 shortly after birth without the consent or knowledge of the father, identified simply as Sifon.
According to the police, investigations revealed that the child, born on May 7, was secretly sold to a woman identified as Eno Peter of Ikpe Atai Village.

The three suspects arrested in connection with the incident are Ekemini Godwin, 19; Endurance Sunday, 26; and Alice Emmanuel, 50.
DSP John said operatives acted swiftly after receiving the report, leading to the successful recovery of the newborn and the arrest of the suspects.
She added that the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation, while police have expanded investigations to uncover other individuals connected to the child trafficking syndicate and possible illegal adoption network operating within and outside the state.
The command also revealed that operatives raided a suspected criminal hideout in Efa Village, Etinan Local Government Area, as part of efforts to tackle crime across Akwa Ibom.
Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with useful information, assuring the public of the command’s commitment to fighting criminal activities in the state.
