
Tension and fear gripped residents of Eziobodo in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State on Wednesday night after suspected gunmen reportedly invaded the community.
The affected area, which hosts the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), witnessed chaos as gunshots were heard, forcing students, traders, and motorists to flee for safety.
Viral videos circulating on social media showed scenes of panic, with people running in different directions to escape the attack.
In one of the clips, a commercial motorcyclist was seen injured, with blood stains on his clothing, recounting how he narrowly escaped death.

According to the victim, he had initially sensed danger along the route but proceeded after his passenger insisted on continuing the journey into Eziobodo. Moments later, the situation escalated, leaving him caught in the violence.
The incident sparked widespread fear across the university community and surrounding areas, as residents hurried indoors and deserted the streets.
As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the attackers or provide full details on the circumstances surrounding the invasion.
Security agencies are expected to investigate the incident as residents call for increased protection in the area.
