
Police operatives in Bayelsa State, working alongside the Joint Task Force (JTF), have arrested 14 suspects in connection with the recent violent attack on Ogboinbiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out based on credible intelligence, also led to the recovery of dangerous weapons and equipment allegedly used in the attack.
Items seized include four pump-action guns, multiple cartridges, and four speedboats fitted with engines suspected to have facilitated criminal activities along the waterways.
The incident, which occurred last month, left one person dead and several others injured, sparking tension within the community.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the suspects were apprehended during a targeted raid on the residence of an individual identified as “Lionface,” believed to be linked to key figures in the community’s leadership structure.

While 14 suspects are currently in custody, security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend the prime suspect, who remains at large.
In response to the crisis, the Bayelsa State Government had earlier imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the affected area to prevent further violence.
Additionally, Governor Douye Diri took decisive action by dethroning the community’s paramount ruler and dissolving the local council.
The Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, commended the joint security team for the successful operation and reassured residents of ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal elements and restore lasting peace across the state.
