Ex-Jigawa Lawmaker Abba Anas Adamu Dies in Captivity Despite ₦50m Ransom Payment -

Former federal lawmaker and member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abba Anas Adamu, has died while in the custody of kidnappers, despite efforts by his family to secure his release with a ₦50 million ransom payment.

Adamu, who previously represented the Guri/Kirikasamma/Birniwa federal constituency in Jigawa State, was abducted along the Kaduna–Abuja highway at Rijana.

He was reportedly travelling to Kano State alongside his friend and political associate, Ali Tukur Gantsa, when they were seized by armed kidnappers.

According to available reports, the abductors initially demanded ₦200 million for their release but later reduced the ransom to ₦50 million after negotiations with the victims’ family.

The reduced amount was eventually paid in hopes of securing the lawmaker’s freedom.
However, despite the payment, the kidnappers later informed Adamu’s son of a location where his body was found, confirming that he had died while still in captivity.

The incident has sparked grief and shock among family members, political associates, and supporters across Jigawa State and beyond. Members of the African Democratic Congress have also expressed sadness over the tragic development, describing it as a devastating loss.

Authorities are yet to issue an official detailed statement on the circumstances surrounding his death, while calls continue for stronger security measures along the Abuja–Kaduna highway, a route frequently affected by kidnapping incidents.
