The decomposing body of a hairstylist identified as Kemisola was discovered on Thursday in her room at a residence in the Jaleyemi area of Osogbo, Osun State, prompting a police investigation.
A co-tenant, who spoke anonymously for security reasons, said he noticed the door to Kemisola’s room was slightly ajar early in the morning and grew concerned after several unanswered greetings.
Upon checking, he found her lifeless body lying on the bed in an advanced state of decomposition. He added that he did not know her full name and only exchanged occasional pleasantries with her as a neighbour.
Another neighbour, Jide, said he last saw Kemisola on Monday and initially attributed the foul smell coming from her room on Tuesday to a dead rat before the body was found.
Before the remains were evacuated, a knife, a mobile phone and an empty bottle of an unknown substance were found on the bed beside her.

A man who identified himself as Kemisola’s elder brother said he saw her on Monday after she returned from a trip to Igbajo but did not hear from her again until the discovery. He described her as a hairstylist.
Another neighbour, Damilola, said Kemisola had moved out of her apartment three months ago due to erratic power supply and had been staying with her maternal uncle, only visiting the area occasionally. She described the deceased as a kind and friendly person.
Osun State Police Command spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed that the incident was reported and the remains had been evacuated for an autopsy.
He noted that there were no visible marks of violence on the body but said the police would investigate to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
