Meanwhile, a human rights organisation, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, has raised concerns over alleged attempts by some individuals to privately settle the matter.
The group emphasized that such offences are crimes against the state and should be prosecuted accordingly to serve as a deterrent.
The organisation’s National Coordinator, Prince Wiro, called on law enforcement authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and due legal process.
He stressed that allowing perpetrators to evade justice through informal settlements could encourage similar offences.
Authorities are reportedly making arrangements to transfer the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for further investigation.
