A shocking incident has unfolded in Benue State as a pair of newborn twins were discovered abandoned in a bush in Vandeikya Local Government Area.
The babies were found on Friday at Mbaaji in Ningev Council Ward, an area locally known as “Wangbeen Jor,” during a routine sanitation exercise carried out by a local task force.
According to the Chairman of the Task Force, Chief Daniel Orhembega, the discovery was made after one of the team members heard the sound of a baby crying while they were disposing of refuse.
Upon tracing the sound, the team found the twins wrapped in fresh leaves, alongside the placenta and a gown believed to belong to their mother an indication they had been abandoned shortly after birth.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that while one of the babies was crying loudly, the other remained silent and asleep, raising concerns about their condition at the time of rescue.

The infants were immediately taken to a nearby clinic, where they are currently receiving medical care.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Vandeikya Local Government Area, Hon. Dennis Terkura Guda, condemned the act, describing it as inhumane and unacceptable.
He later visited the babies at the clinic, assumed responsibility for their welfare, and gave them names Guda-Alia (boy) and Alia-Doo (girl).
The twins have since been placed under the care of the Local Government Welfare Department.
Meanwhile, authorities have called on residents to provide any useful information that could help identify and locate the mother of the children.
