A 31-year-old man, Chukwemeka Destiny, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly orchestrating the kidnap of his own aunt the same woman who raised him from childhood.
According to the police, Destiny reportedly paid a total of ₦900,000 in two instalments to individuals he believed were kidnappers, with the intention of abducting his aunt.
The suspect had lived with the woman from the age of five until he was 15, during which she catered for his upbringing and education.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe described the case as a disturbing example of betrayal, noting a growing pattern of crimes committed against benefactors and close associates.
However, the kidnap plot was foiled when the individuals Destiny contacted turned out not to be kidnappers.

Instead, they played along, gathered evidence, and handed him over to the authorities ultimately saving the intended victim.
During interrogation, Destiny admitted to the crime but failed to provide a clear motive, stating he could not explain what led to his actions. He later attributed his behavior to “the devil.”
The suspect, a married father of two who claims to run a haulage and building materials business, confirmed making the payments from his earnings.
Reacting to the development, the aunt expressed shock and heartbreak, revealing that Destiny had long distanced himself from the family after leaving her home as a teenager. Despite occasionally being seen in the neighbourhood, he reportedly avoided contact.
When asked whether she preferred mercy or justice, the woman insisted that the law should take its full course.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
