
Troops under Operation Enduring Peace have killed two suspected gunmen during a coordinated ambush in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, which followed credible intelligence on the movement of armed criminals, was carried out around 7:49 p.m. on Tuesday near Doruwa Babuje in the Marit area.
According to a statement issued by the Joint Task Force’s Media Information Officer, Captain Chinonso Oteh, the troops acted swiftly after receiving reports linking the suspects to recent attacks on surrounding communities.
Upon sighting the gunmen, the soldiers launched a successful ambush, leading to a gun battle in which two of the suspects were killed, while others escaped into nearby bushes under the cover of darkness.

Following the encounter, security operatives conducted a search of the area and recovered one locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.
The military confirmed that troops have since intensified patrols across the Marit and Lajam axis to prevent further attacks and track down fleeing suspects.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the task force urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security agencies.
The latest operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to combat armed violence, robbery, and other criminal activities in Plateau State.
