The Nigerian military, under Operation HADIN KAI, has carried out successful air interdiction missions in the Lake Chad region of Borno State, killing over 30 terrorists belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Security sources revealed that the operation was based on credible intelligence and surveillance data indicating increased terrorist movement along waterways around the Kaniram Island axis.
According to reports shared by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama on X, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms detected multiple boats suspected to be used by ISWAP fighters for logistics and movement along the riverbank.
Further monitoring confirmed the presence of about 31 boats and human activity consistent with insurgent operations, prompting immediate air action.

The first precision strike disrupted the terrorists’ logistics network and damaged several boats used for movement and supply.
Subsequent surveillance attempts by the fighters to regroup in nearby vegetation, leading to follow-up strikes.
A second strike targeted about eight terrorists, neutralising them, while a third strike hit another group of approximately 15 fighters hiding under tree cover, resulting in their elimination.
Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) confirmed significant losses on the insurgents, with surviving members reportedly fleeing into surrounding hideouts.
Military authorities say the operation is part of ongoing efforts to degrade terrorist capabilities and restore stability in the Lake Chad region.
