A 61-year-old Nigerian man based in the United Kingdom, Anthony Adewale Sobogun, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for multiple offences involving the abuse of two minors over a prolonged period.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the conviction in a statement, noting that Sobogun, a resident of Croydon, was sentenced at the Inner London Crown Court after being found guilty of 17 counts of non-recent abuse.
According to investigators, the offences took place over 15 years, spanning the 1990s and early 2000s. The victims were known to the offender and were subjected to repeated abuse during that time.
Authorities revealed that one of the victims became pregnant during the period, with medical and counselling records later helping to support her account as part of the investigation.

Sobogun was arrested in July 2025 following a detailed probe carried out by officers who adopted a victim-focused approach, working closely with those affected to gather evidence and ensure their testimonies were heard in court.
Detective Constable Charlotte Lockyer, speaking on the case, commended the victims for their courage in coming forward, noting that their cooperation played a key role in securing the conviction.
In a joint statement, the victims described the case as a reminder that abuse often remains hidden due to fear, stigma, and silence.
They encouraged others who may have experienced similar situations to speak up, stressing that justice can still be achieved regardless of how much time has passed.
The police reiterated their commitment to supporting victims and improving investigative processes to ensure offenders are held accountable.
