A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced a 40-year-old man, Hamza Yahuza, to seven years imprisonment for supplying illicit substances and cigarettes to Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.
The judgment was delivered by Justice Binta Fatima Nyako after the defendant pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him.
Yahuza, a father of six, admitted in open court that he sold Indian hemp, cigarettes, and other drugs to members of the terrorist group in 2023.
He also confessed to distributing the items in parts of Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.

During the proceedings, the convict appealed for leniency, attributing his actions to poverty. However, the court rejected his plea, stating that such justification could not excuse aiding terrorist activities.
Justice Nyako subsequently sentenced him to seven years imprisonment. The court also ruled that the sentence would take effect from March 6, 2023 the date he was arrested and taken into custody.
Yahuza is among over 500 individuals currently facing trial in various courts across Nigeria, following prosecution efforts by the Attorney General of the Federation for alleged involvement in terrorism-related offenses.
