
A freshers’ party at the Federal University of Education, Kontagora in Niger State turned tragic after a student was killed following a violent clash during the event.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 4, 2026, at a hall within the institution where newly admitted students had gathered to celebrate.
According to reports, the victim, identified as 25-year-old Seyi Simon, became involved in an argument with an 18-year-old suspect, Jafar Musa, said to be from the Angwan-Gwari area of Kontagora.

Sources indicated that the disagreement began over a minor issue during the party reportedly related to a misunderstanding between both individuals, which quickly escalated into a heated confrontation.
The situation, which could not be immediately controlled, turned violent during the altercation.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the case was reported at the A Division in Kontagora around 1:40 a.m. He explained that the dispute between the two individuals degenerated into violence, leading to the fatal incident.
The victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
The suspect has since been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Police authorities have urged students and members of the public to remain calm while the law takes its course.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across the campus community, raising concerns over security during student social events and the need for better conflict management at large gatherings.
