
Two persons have been confirmed dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a multiple-vehicle accident at Soka Junction along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway on Saturday night.
The Oyo State Police Command disclosed the incident on Sunday through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, in Ibadan.
According to the statement, the crash occurred at about 10:10 p.m. and involved a white HOWO truck with registration number Gombe GEM696XE, driven by one Abdullahi Bashiru.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver allegedly lost control of the truck due to excessive speed and reckless driving, leading to a violent collision with multiple vehicles and pedestrians at the busy junction.
The impact of the crash resulted in significant damage to several vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW, among others.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
The Police Command also confirmed that a thorough investigation has been launched to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
While urging motorists to exercise caution, the command emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to traffic regulations and avoiding excessive speed to prevent avoidable tragedies.
The police further called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information, reiterating their commitment to the protection of lives and property.
