A Nigerian childcare worker based in the United Kingdom, Elizabeth Adeagbo, is set to be sentenced on May 14 after being found guilty of assaulting a toddler at a nursery facility.
The 29-year-old, who was working as an agency staff member through Teaching Personnel, appeared before Sefton Magistrates’ Court where details of the April 16, 2025 incident were presented during trial proceedings.
According to court findings, the incident occurred while Adeagbo was washing breakfast dishes.
The toddler had reportedly approached her and grabbed her trouser leg in an attempt to get her attention.
In response, Adeagbo lifted the child by one arm, explaining that she did not want to get him wet due to her soaked apron.
However, CCTV footage shown in court captured the child crying as he was carried across the room by his left arm.

The emotional distress reportedly continued, as the child was still in tears when his mother arrived to pick him up later that day.
The child’s mother recounted her shock upon receiving a call from the nursery informing her of the situation.
She said she rushed over immediately to confirm her child’s condition and later took him to the hospital for medical evaluation.
Although no physical injuries were found, she described the experience as deeply frightening.
During the trial, Adeagbo’s defence counsel, Caleb Suggitt, emphasized her prior experience in childcare, noting that she had worked in multiple nurseries both in the UK and Nigeria without any previous complaints.
He added that she has since acknowledged her actions were inappropriate and expressed genuine remorse, insisting there was no intention to harm the child.
Following her conviction, the court adjourned sentencing to May 14, when Adeagbo is expected to learn her fate at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court.
