
A Kano State High Court has sentenced four men to 10 years in prison each for their involvement in armed robbery operations carried out in parts of Ungogo Local Government Area.
The convicts Shafi’u Abubakar, Usman Suleiman, Usman Sa’idu, and Ali Isah were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by Justice Adam Abdullahi.
According to court proceedings, the defendants, all residents of Rijiyar Lemo in Kano, carried out coordinated attacks on residential homes in Sabon Garin Doka and Bankaura communities in the early hours of July 22, 2024.
The prosecution revealed that between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., the convicts, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded the homes of Abdullahi Musa and Mansur Muazu.
During the attacks, they assaulted the victims and carted away valuables, including cash totaling N201,000 and 500 CFA.

The charges were brought under Sections 97 and 298(c) of the Penal Code, which cover criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
Initially pleading not guilty, the defendants later changed their plea to guilty during the trial. The prosecution, led by Barrister Ibrahim Garba Arif, presented two witnesses to establish the case, while the defence was handled by Barrister Basira Yunus.
Following their guilty plea, the court summarily convicted the defendants on all three counts and sentenced them to 10 years’ imprisonment each, along with a fine of N10,000 per count.
Justice Abdullahi further ordered that the sentences run concurrently, with effect from July 22, 2024—the date of their arrest.
