
A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos State, on Wednesday arraigned two women, 50-year-old Funke Aire and 27-year-old Divine Richard, over the alleged abduction of a 13-year-old girl.
The prosecution, led by ASP Edet Ekpo, informed the court that the alleged offence occurred on March 12 at around 9:23 p.m. in Agbomimo, near the First Storey Building in Badagry.
According to Ekpo, the women conspired to abduct the minor with the intention of exploiting her for financial gain, allegedly by demanding ransom from her parents.

This act, he said, violates Sections 268 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Ekpo further explained that the suspects were apprehended by vigilant community members and handed over to the police for prosecution.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and abduction.
Presiding over the matter, Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted each defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in the same amount.
The court stipulated that at least one surety must be a company director or a recognized community leader.
The case was adjourned to April 23, 2026, for mention.
