
Outrage has erupted in Delta State following disturbing reports of harassment and assault of women during a cultural festival in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area.
The Delta State Government has strongly condemned the incident, describing the acts as barbaric, inhumane, and completely unacceptable in a civil society.
In a statement released on Friday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, called on security agencies to immediately investigate the matter and ensure that all those involved are identified and prosecuted.
He stressed that no cultural celebration should serve as a cover for criminal behavior, emphasizing that the safety and dignity of citizens especially women must always be protected.
Aniagwu reassured residents that the government remains committed to safeguarding lives and upholding the rights of vulnerable groups.
He also urged community leaders and festival organizers across the state to strengthen security measures at public events to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

Reacting to the viral videos circulating online, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, described the development as alarming, disgusting, and embarrassing.
He confirmed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident. According to him, no tradition or custom should override the fundamental rights of individuals.
The police have appealed to members of the public with useful information to come forward and assist with the investigation, assuring that those responsible will be brought to justice.
The incident, which reportedly occurred in Oruamudhu community, has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for stricter enforcement of laws against gender-based violence.
The Delta State Government reiterated its zero-tolerance stance, warning that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
