The police in Ogun State have arrested a Local Government Inspector (LGI) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abass Olalekan, over the death of a female corps member, Victoria Ariyo.
Ariyo, who was serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, reportedly died on Tuesday following complications linked to a terminated pregnancy.
Sources disclosed that the NYSC official allegedly announced her death informally and instructed fellow corps members to arrange her burial.
Her remains were subsequently buried at Kobape Cemetery along Kobape-Sagamu Road in Abeokuta.
There are also allegations suggesting that the LGI was involved in a romantic relationship with the deceased, which reportedly resulted in the pregnancy.
The incident has sparked concern, coming barely a month after another corps member, Adeleye Mary, said to be a close associate of Ariyo, died under unclear circumstances in the same local government area.
