Relationship coach and senior pastor of David’s Christian Centre, Kingsley Okonkwo, has advised men to set higher standards when choosing a spouse, urging them to avoid marrying women who are financially dependent.
In a series of posts shared on social media, Okonkwo said many men are losing interest in marriage because they increasingly view it as a financial burden rather than a partnership.
According to him, men should also establish standards when seeking a partner. He suggested that choosing financially stable women could encourage more women to pursue careers and not see relationships or marriage as a means of financial rescue.

Okonkwo further argued that the widespread expectation for men to bear all financial responsibilities in marriage is both harmful and inconsistent with biblical teachings. He encouraged men to seek partners who are willing and able to contribute financially.
He also criticized men who deliberately pursue vulnerable or dependent women, saying such behavior is often driven by fragile egos and a desire for control. Instead, he urged men to value women as capable individuals and support their personal and professional development.
