
The Osun State Police Command has arrested two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service in connection with the fatal shooting of a driver along the Osogbo–Iwo Road.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday around the Onibueja area of Ido-Osun, sparked outrage among residents after the driver was allegedly shot during a pursuit.
According to a video obtained by PUNCH Metro, the shooting happened near a roadblock at about 10 a.m. Witnesses said the officers, who were dressed in plain clothes, had been chasing the driver from the Iwo end of the road before the incident occurred.
The footage showed the victim’s vehicle riddled with bullets as angry residents gathered at the scene, demanding an investigation and justice for the deceased.
Confirming the arrests, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, identified the suspects as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel.
Ojelabi explained that the customs operatives were reportedly pursuing suspected “tokunbo” (foreign-used) vehicles when the shooting occurred.
Police officers responded to the report and apprehended the two suspects shortly after the incident.
He added that the driver of an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla, one of the vehicles being chased, was shot during the pursuit and later confirmed dead by a doctor at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital. The body has been deposited in the morgue, while the victim’s identity is yet to be confirmed.

Items recovered from the scene include a Beretta pistol with breech number 125024, eleven rounds of 9mm live ammunition, one expanded 9mm shell, a white Toyota Corolla with Lagos registration number AAA 400 GQ, and an ash Toyota Corolla with registration number GFQ 0982 from Texas.
The suspects are currently in police custody.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The police also assured the public that anyone found responsible will face the full weight of the law and urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
