Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist, Eucharia Anunobi, has opened up about the emotional and physical challenges of raising her son, who battled sickle cell disease for over 16 years.
Sharing her story on the Honest Brunch Podcast, Anunobi revealed how the journey tested her strength, faith, and resilience as a mother.
She recounted the heartbreak of discovering her son’s condition shortly before his first birthday. “Just before my son turned one, he fell ill.
The doctors ran tests and told me he had the SS genotype. That was the start of the battle of my life,” she said, visibly emotional.

Determined to give him the best care, Anunobi studied everything about the condition, from medications and herbal remedies to strict lifestyle precautions. “I had to learn that children with SS cannot stay in dusty or hot environments.
My son never drank untreated water,” she explained.
Despite the struggles, she described the years spent caring for her son as some of the most rewarding of her life.
“I’m grateful to God for giving me the privilege of motherhood. Raising my child for 16 years, six months, and 22 days was one of the most glorious experiences of my life,” she said.
Anunobi also highlighted how the journey strengthened her faith. “Caring for my son deepened my relationship with God and taught me patience, resilience, and the true meaning of a mother’s love,” she added.
Her story serves as a powerful testament to parental love and the courage required to navigate life with a child living with sickle cell disease.
