Afrobeats superstar Omah Lay has opened up about how a brief romance overshadowed one of the biggest nights of his career.
Speaking at the listening party for his upcoming album, Clarity of Mind, the singer revealed that a two-month relationship ended abruptly while he attended the 2025 Grammys in early February.
Omah Lay said the breakup was triggered by misunderstandings and constant disagreements that surfaced early in the relationship.
“Every time I fall in love, I lose myself,” he explained. “We started having issues even before the Grammy, and it just escalated. What I thought was the right relationship became a source of stress and heartbreak.”

The singer admitted that the emotional turmoil distracted him, making it impossible to enjoy the event, even as stars like Justin Bieber performed.
He also revealed that the experience inspired his new track, Don’t Love Me. “I don’t know how to do two things at once.
When I’m focused on something, all of me is in it. I wasn’t even present at the Grammys,” he said. “The song is me telling her: let’s enjoy this moment, but once I find something else that gives me pleasure, I’ll move on.”
Despite the personal setback, Omah Lay remains candid about how his experiences shape his music, giving fans an intimate look into the emotions behind his art.
